Link & Pin Coupler Boxes
Ozark
Miniatures makes a beautiful shank-type, spring loaded, link and pin coupler
for us 7/8thers. It copies the Maine type, but is also appropriate for
industrial models. I know because I was lucky enough, back in ’52, to be a switchman
for a summer, on a 3 ft., link and pin, steel plant railroad. Fortunately, I
was also lucky (or fast) enough to keep all my fingers!
Unfortunately
though, Ozark mated this fine coupler with a less than desirable you-build-it
coupler box. I think they looked around at what was already available, and just
used it. The customer has to cut and drill some pieces of wood, and combine
them with Ozark's cast parts.
Steve
King saw the problem, and cast up a perfect little resin coupler box. The Ozark
shank and its spring mechanism fit right in, and the unit is easily screw
mounted on the underside of the car. The box is narrow, allowing maximum truck
swing on 8-wheel cars.
To use
this combination, you need one OM6DG78 Link & Pin Coupler w/sprung draft
gear (One package contains 2 couplers) @ $7.50 from Ozark, and one #41011 (One
package contains 4 coupler boxes) @ $2.80 from 7/8 n2 Equipment Co.
